So, what can Evolve do for forecourts?  EvolveISPISP solution: A scalable, secure, business-grade connection that is customised for your company is offered by EvolveISP. Evolve is aware of the constantly shifting nature of the digital world and the rising need for bandwidth brought on by the development of technologies like artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. EvolveWANSD-WAN: Forecourt retailers depend on Evolve’s SD-WAN solution because it offers complete Level 1 PCI certification and guarantees the security of all card payments and company data. Evolve understands how important it is to keep your business running smoothly, and that’s why their solution has 4G failover, which means that if your device loses its primary connection, it will instantly switch to a secondary connection (4G/5G), which won’t affect your connection. EvolveODM To safeguard both parties, Evolve’s Guest Wi-Fi solution enables your visitors to connect to a different Wi-Fi network from the company’s main network. Your customers may simply access online deals, e-receipts, applications, loyalty programmes, and more if you provide guest Wi-Fi. VisionVision, Evolve’s newest innovation, will be unveiled at the Forecourt Show. Using the capabilities of Evolve’s SD-WAN solution, Vision is a host monitoring platform that gives organisations a single “pane of glass” view of their network, including loyalty programmes, petrol pumps, and various customer-facing devices. Businesses can now receive notifications when there is a problem with their entire network instead of just a specific device, which completely transforms how they view their network. Come along to the Forecourt Show and discuss with Evolve how they can revolutionise your retail business. Our stand is J39. PSTN Switch off

Preparing for the PSTN Switch Off | Evolve

Lancashire, UK – 2024 OpenReach Infrastructure  In September 2023, Openreach introduced a ‘Stop-Sell’ on all WLR products; meaning traditional forms of communication could no longer be purchased. Traditional lines refer to the physical copper product laid in the ground by Openreach.   To break this down further, ADSL (Broadband) sits on layer 2 of the network Lanscape; it is layer 1, the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) line, that is being switched off.  In December 2025, Openreach will be switching off the PSTN line. There are currently just under 9 million lines over the Openreach network left to convert to digital alternatives; however, Openreach is currently converting around 80,000 legacy lines to digital alternatives per week.  Evolve feels there is little need to panic or remodel your whole network infrastructure. This paper will outline the different options available to your business at a relative cost and outcome. In essence, you are not losing the broadband that connects you to your business, you’re losing the line that it sits on. Because of this, you’re losing the connection.  All voice will be moved from the physical line in the ground to the internet; this is referred to as VoIP. VoIP stands for voice-over-internet protocol, and it is a technology that allows you to make phone calls over the internet rather than through a traditional landline phone system. VoIP services are cheaper than traditional landlines due to their low-cost structure and reliance on data transmission rather than calls being made directly between two parties on either end of a line.  VoIP offers significantly more flexibility as well as increased security. Traditional landlines can be very expensive, as well as incur a high cost to maintain and install How does the move to full fibre support this?  There are many reasons why full fibre is more beneficial to the user than traditional networks. For example, full fibre is significantly more reliable than standard copper or partial fibre broadband like FTTC due to it being less prone to interference, damage, or loss of signal over long distances while also improving the voice quality. Evolve’s Network Operations Centre further underpins the reliability of full fibre connectivity through their 24 x 7 x 365 support desk, offering pro-active monitoring and resolution.  It is also one of the best options moving forward due to its scalability to increase bandwidth at pace. With full-fibre internet that is future-proof, it is ready to meet growing demand for faster and better broadband services that require high speed and lower latency. Furthermore, full fibre has a longer lifespan than copper wires. Evolve specialises in speed of deployment; within our warehouse, we conduct the whole operation in-house, from staging to configuration and testing.  How is the full fibre roll out progressing?  Openreach ‘stop-sell’ exchange roll-out refers to the discontinuation of sales and installations of analogue phone systems, and all telephone products that rely on the old, copper PSTN or ISDN phone lines.  Evolve can provide site-by-site visibility of when existing connections are impacted, helping you strategically plan the move.  The role of alternative network providers to that of Openreach, including ITS, CityFibre, Ms3, CommunityFibre, G-Networks, and Freedom Fibre, means that Evolve is not solely reliant on OpenReach for full fibre connectivity in more remote or difficult locations.   What happens if full fibre is not available?   FTTP accessibility for businesses is growing exponentially, and through Evolve’s portfolio of full-fibre partnerships, we endeavour to provide full-fibre connectivity to support additional services requiring better stability and bandwidth, such as the move to VoIP. The PSTN Switch Off and the move to full fibre are separate operations; however, the two things cross over due to the conversion from PSTN to digital alternatives. Currently (January 2024), Open Reach is converting over 80,000 legacy lines per week to digital alternatives.   In the event that it is not available or not in your budget, however, there are currently several other options:  SoADSL & SoGEA  SoADSL (Single Order Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) are single-line offerings, meaning there is no need for a PSTN line. The next level of data connectivity, offered by SoGEA, eliminates the need for any traditional voice services over the phone. This guarantees that you are prepared for “The Big Switch Off” in 2025 and that you have a pure data connection devoid of PSTN services.  SoGEA is a direct replacement for FTTC; currently, there are over 28 million (FTTC enabled) premises and growing. There is no traditional line underneath, but you are still able to use the same service.   SoADSL is only available where SoGEA or FTTP are not available. The goal of all-IP is to close the legacy network components, not necessarily all the copper; copper will not be removed until 2027. The all-IP variant of copper-to-copper broadband, for instance, is called SoADSL. By the time that the copper is removed in 2027, it is likely that full fibre will be available in your area.  MPF  MPF (Metalic Path Facilities) is a short-term fix, MPF does not have a switch off until approximately 2030. MPF based products of FTTC, you don’t have the physical line underneath, but you will still have access, and you will also be able to get FTTP by the end of its life.  In conclusion, we understand that traditional PSTN is being switched off, however, there are a variety of digital alternatives available, including short-term solutions that will last a further 5 years. There are several like-for-like solutions that mean you will not pay more for the service. If full fibre is not yet available in your area, there is no reason to panic and implement a leased line. Contact Evolve about what other cost-effective methods of connectivity are available.  Evolve, in collaboration with their extensive carrier partner profile, can help speed up the process of switching to full fibre as well as offer a bespoke consultation to find you and your business the best option available.   End About Evolve Business Group

Internet Service Provider

5 Things To Consider When Choosing your Internet Service Provider.

Lancashire, UK – 2024 When looking to invest in a new connectivity provider, there are several things to consider. As the demand for secure, reliable, and bandwidth-capable connectivity increases, businesses must ensure they are choosing the right provider.  Firstly, your connectivity needs to be reliable. The cost of downtime significantly outweighs the cost of investing in strong, reliable connectivity that will maximise uptime. Not only that, but you want to ensure your connectivity provider can offer your business advanced monitoring, such as Evolve’s 24 x 7 x 365 Network Operations Centre.  Businesses need to consider what their bandwidth requirements are. As we are seeing more and more Wi-Fi-capable devices and products enter our businesses, the demand for increased bandwidth is significant. Bandwidth refers to how much information the system can handle. If your company often sends large files or operates heavily via video conferencing, this will require larger bandwidth and higher speeds.  Depending on your location, availability and efficiency will play a huge role in determining your internet service provider. Many areas and cities have access to a range of fibre connections, which may vary in speed up to full fibre.  Evolve has significant carrier relationships across the whole of the UK and globally, ensuring that there is no reliance on Openreach for the infrastructure in hard-to-reach areas.  Choosing an ISP that is focused on security and the protection of sensitive data should be one of your top considerations, especially if you are a business operating with a significant amount of customer data, such as card payments and customer data.  A significant consideration for any business is cost. Evolve’s connectivity solution is affordable and scalable. They work with your business to create a bespoke solution that fits your business’s budget and requirements.  Evolve offers reliable, secure, tailorable connectivity that is designed to enhance your business, working alongside leading carrier partners such as ITS Technologies to deliver full fibre through new and emerging technologies such as XGS-PON. Forecourt Trader Summit

Evolve attend Forecourt Trader Summit Event 2024.

Lancashire, UK – 2024 On Tuesday, Evolve attended Forecourt Trader‘s 2024 annual summit. The summit was a precursor to their annual Top 50 Indie event, an evening celebrating independent forecourts across the UK.  Neil Muttock, Dean Lord of Evolve, found the summit incredibly insightful, gathering knowledge of the industry across a number of topics, including the increase in crime, the rise of EV charging, the concerns for the National Grid, and the importance of convenience.  Increase in Forecourt Crime  One of the most important topics across the course of the day was the rise in crime across forecourts; this includes ‘drive-offs’, individuals having no means to pay, as well as physical crimes against staff. This is becoming an increasing issue for forecourts; however, there is little consequence for the actions of these crimes. As a result, the Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) is working tirelessly alongside the local authorities to combat this issue.  As part of this discussion, the speaker highlighted the significance of the lack of consequence, pointing out that individuals are naming it the ‘Forecourt 7-day loan’ meaning that they are not paying for their fuel and simply filling out a form that alerts the DVLA that they have not paid; however, they know that this has little to no consequence. In fact, an outstanding 2 out of 5 forecourt workers have admitted to receiving abuse on a weekly basis, which is therefore having a direct impact on their mental health. Moreover, 2 out of 5 forecourt workers are considering leaving.  In order to combat the above, forecourts are integrating more technology in the form of VR, advanced CCTV with facial recognition, and, more significantly, body cameras, to increase staff safety. With this comes a demand for higher bandwidth and the need for a secure and reliable network.  The Rise of EV Charging  A further topic of discussion at the summit was the rise of EV charging and the long-term investments to purchase EVs, which are leading to an undeniable increase in dwell time. As we look to the future, forecourts are having to consider a variety of new prospects, such as forecourts being the primary destination where people charge their cars, the increase in demand for convenience, and also the changing requirements of the forecourt.  As we progress, we are seeing forecourts becoming destinations rather than simply fuel purchases. For example, since BP’s partnership with M&S Food, they are seeing shoppers becoming predominantly store-only rather than fuel.  A further discussion around the EV charging movement is the concern for the National Grid and whether it can physically support the increase in EV charging. Further fuels are being introduced into the market, such as hydrogen, in order to aid the demand on the national grid.  Convenience  Tout’s innovative independent forecourt, which won forecourt of the year 2023, is paving the way for future forecourts, recognising the change from fuel-only forecourts to becoming ‘local centres’. Jonathan Tout understands that each individual forecourt should provide a variety of different services rather than whole geographical areas providing the same facilities; he understands the demand for more specific services such as hairdressers or salons and how dwell time can be utilised productively.  Currently, the second reason customers are looking for at a forecourt is convenience and access to a good-quality convenience store. People are looking to them for their weekly shop, or ‘food for now, food for later, as Joanne Hall of BP coined the term. Jonathan Tout is predicting forecourts will become ‘local centres’ offering a variety of different facilities.  Convenience is currently the second reason people visit a forecourt, but it is important to recognise that it will only grow; could it become the first reason people visit? Customer Service  A further key topic of conversation in relation to forecourts is customer service. 62% of customers deem customer service to be an extremely important consideration when choosing to go back to a forecourt. Customer service is not simply about the customer-facing conversation; it is about ensuring the whole experience is seamless for the customer, especially technology-wise. If your connectivity is down at your forecourt, it can lead to your payment terminals being down, CCTV not working, and gift cards slowing down, which will all in turn lead to a negative experience for the customer.  All of the above require a significant increase in connectivity. The increase in dwell time as well as a rise in card transactions mean that your connectivity will be stretched to its limits. Evolve’s scalable and secure Internet connectivity solution can help take your forecourt on a journey of transformation.  End About Evolve Business Group and Evolve Evolve Business Group is an independently owned company that specialises in providing end-to-end IT and managed network solutions to a range of businesses. Digital Innovation construction

How digital innovation can help transform the efficiency of the construction industry.

Lancashire, UK – 2024 An increasing number of industries have started to embrace digital transformation in recent years. Industries are going through a major period of transition because of technological advancements and increased global connectivity.  The construction sector is one that is unwavering in its embrace of the digital revolution. The way that projects are managed and completed is being revolutionised by digital transformation, which enables construction companies to increase productivity while lowering expenses.  Construction companies may now execute projects on schedule and under budget by streamlining operations and workflow procedures with the help of cutting-edge technologies.  So, what does digital transformation look like in the construction industry?  Building information modelling (BIM) is one instance of how the construction industry is undergoing a digital change. Using a digital technology called BIM, engineers, contractors, and architects can digitally represent a building’s design, construction, and functional aspects. With the help of this new technology, construction companies can now work together and instantly share information with stakeholders, which increases productivity.  In addition, as the internet of things has grown, so too have technological advancements like 3D printing, drones, sensors, AI, and virtual reality—all aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and safety. The way that buildings are designed, built, and maintained could be completely transformed by digital transformation in the construction industry.   Additional instances of digital transformation in the construction industry are digital tools impacting project management, sustainability tools, energy and resource optimisation tools, supply chain management, and safety tools.  With their EvolveIT system, Evolve is assisting the construction industry in its digital transformation by offering asset management services to companies. This and other digital technology can increase production and efficiency for construction companies. Your time can be better spent on other crucial tasks when you hire a company like Evolve to manage your assets externally. Evolve will take care of all your assets, including tools, cars, and equipment, and will give you up-to-date tracking and maintenance data.  In conclusion, the adoption of digital transformation by the construction industry is changing the efficiency and project management landscape.  Workflows in the construction industry are increasingly reliant on digital tools, such as those that affect project management, sustainability, energy optimisation, supply chain management, and safety.  Observing the continuous development of the construction industry through digital transformation, it is evident that this paradigm shift involves more than just adopting technology; it also entails changing the way in which projects are conceived, built, and carried out. In the construction sector, human collaboration with cutting-edge digital tools is shown to be the key to unlocking previously unheard-of levels of efficiency, sustainability, and safety.  Contact Evolve today to explore how EvolveIT can help streamline operations within your construction business. cost savings for managed network

The financial benefits of investing in managed network solutions

Lancashire, UK – 2024 Investing in managed network solutions is a wise approach to save money over the long run as businesses everywhere manage the cost of doing business. By entrusting the intricacies of network management to a committed team capable of implementing solutions and responding to issues at the speed required by your customers in today’s digitally-driven world, you can free up your internal team to concentrate on key strategic initiatives and business functions. However, there are other advantages as well. Continue reading to see the top six reasons that choosing Evolve as your managed network solutions partner can improve the financial performance of your company. 1. Make your network more efficient When working with just one provider is possible, why deal with multiple ones? It may seem strange, but far too frequently, companies have to pay for and maintain a range of antiquated solutions. This is particularly likely if they run several locations, have recently seen growth, or have engaged in M&A activities. In addition to needless expenses, this can seriously deplete resources since numerous hours are wasted trying to coordinate and comprehend multiple vendors. At Evolve, we specialise in providing support for businesses with many locations. We also provide a completely managed network solution, which eliminates the need for different suppliers and saves time. We frequently discover that companies are paying for a plethora of solutions that are out of date or ineffective when combined. In the case of the Little Chef brand, which EG Group purchased from Kout Group, we were able to recognise and cut out this complexity in favour of a more straightforward solution. 2. Minimise Downtime Nothing is worse for a company that interacts with customers than a network outage at prime time, particularly in the hotel or gasoline industries. In the best case scenario, it results in lost sales; in the worst case scenario, it strains ties with customers and pushes them away. Reducing this dreaded downtime is another way our managed network solutions may significantly improve your bottom line. We offer round-the-clock surveillance and a bilingual help desk that is staffed year-round. This makes it possible to identify problems early and take action before they cause interruptions. We take great pride in providing our customers with an increased level of protection against this expensive problem, as proactive outbound calls account for 90% of our calls. 4. Superior connectivity. Any business needs a fast and dependable internet connection to run efficiently. Accurate inventory management, rapid and secure payment processing, and efficient supplier and customer communication are all made possible by it. Inaccurate inventory counts, communication problems, and slow or unreliable internet can all have a detrimental effect on client satisfaction and result in lost sales. We don’t care about ISPs and have made significant investments to cultivate strong ties with both Alt Nets and traditional carriers, such BT and TalkTalk in the UK. This implies that wherever complete fibre connectivity is available, we can provide it at the highest level. Unlike MPLS routing via a single connection, our SD-WAN system may route traffic across any available connection based on priority. To improve speed, efficiency, and stability, our SD-WAN solution also chooses the best route for each business application and destination. By choosing Evolve as your managed network solutions partner, you can also take advantage of constant improvements to bandwidth capacity and connectivity, as well as 24/7 visibility and connectivity evaluation throughout the whole enterprise. 5. An expert team  Prepared Working with Evolve results in significant cost savings because there is no need to pay for the employment, training, and management of an internal IT team. Every week, our development staff puts in over 200 hours of development time for our company. As a result, we are able to provide our customers with intelligent answers to their tech problems. Our group has also established important connections with companies like Mako Networks, for which we are the only Platinum Partner worldwide. This indicates that we have a fundamental role in their product design processes and are in a unique position to advance ideas that address issues. Since we are the professionals, we are trusted to work closely with data centres, which house the most important information for businesses, and to innovate to produce solutions that save money. For instance, the Evolve team discovered while working with an Italian customer that the equipment could not be installed in the third party’s data centre or that the current architecture was unsuitable for typical third-party integration. It was critical to overcome this setback, and time was of the key. Our brilliant development team was able to create a ground-breaking solution because of their tight collaboration with Mako technology. Evolve was able to overcome the challenges and guarantee that the company continued to receive best-in-class service without having to spend for expensive infrastructure changes by establishing a “virtual Mako” and leveraging the Cloud. 6. Customisation by professionals Customisation is an additional benefit of managed network systems. It is possible to customise the services to match your unique business requirements as opposed to using a one-size-fits-all strategy. You have the freedom to select the specific services and degree of assistance that best suit your own needs. We can customise each of our solutions, EvolveISP, EvolveWAN, EvolveODM, and EvolveIT, to fit your needs. We guarantee full transparency when determining which services your company need from us. Our white-labelled Guest Wi-Fi solution allows you to personalise every step of the customer experience, from making unique promotions to personalised login pages. In addition to saving money on buying and maintaining its own Wi-Fi infrastructure, the company gains access to a highly flexible marketing tool that will increase revenue by fostering client loyalty. How particular industries might benefit from managed network solutions Fuel Forecourts Fuel forecourts must change their focus if they want to stay profitable. Fuel used to be the only reason customers visited a forecourt, but now, according to KPMG, it only makes up 50% of sales. The remaining portion

top cyber security trends 2023

Reflecting on the Top Cyber Security Threats of 2023.

Lancashire, UK – 2024 Looking back on 2023 reveals the main obstacles and security dangers that businesses faced. This blog will outline the top threats seen in 2023: Vulnerability in the cloud Cloud storage has many benefits, like integrated firewalls, regular cybersecurity precautions, and encrypted servers with restricted access. Even though cloud storage is far safer than storing files on a hard drive, there are still some drawbacks. The National Security Agency has classified cloud vulnerabilities into four categories: supply chain vulnerabilities, shared tenancy, inadequate access control, and misconfiguration. Insecure APIs and the absence of multi-factor authentication are further issues. Data Breaches Businesses are experiencing data breaches on a regular basis, and this trend doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. The average cost of a data breach was $4.45 million, the highest amount ever recorded, according to a recent IBM report. Ransomware attacks Businesses lose billions of dollars annually to ransomware attacks, where hackers literally take over an individual’s or an organisation’s database and demand a ransom for all the data. Phishing attacks Phishing attacks are getting increasingly complex. Phishing attacks involve sending carefully crafted digital communications to trick individuals into clicking on a link that can install malware or reveal personal data. The rise of IoT According to Statista.com, there will be 76 billion gadgets linked to the Internet of Things by 2025, meaning that the technology is becoming more and more widespread every day. Computers, tablets, routers, cameras, smart watches, home security systems, and appliances are all included in this. Connected devices are helpful to consumers, and many companies are also utilising them to reduce expenses by gathering enormous amounts of insightful data and streamlining internal business processes. However, because more connected devices come with a higher risk, IoT networks are increasingly vulnerable to infections and intrusions. Hackers may use IoT devices to overrun networks, disrupt, or bring down essential infrastructure to make money. What can businesses do to combat these threats going into 2024? A recent study by Verizon showed that 74% of cybersecurity data breaches were caused by human error. Businesses should take the time and money to invest in proper security education and training for their employees to prevent this kind of breach. Businesses should also invest in increased security methods, including audits and consultations, to strengthen their cyber defences.
