What is SD-WAN used for?

SD-WAN, or Software-Defined Wide Area Network, is a type of networking technology that is used to connect and manage multiple sites or branch offices in a wide area network (WAN). It uses software to centrally manage and control network traffic routing and policies, allowing organisations to prioritise critical applications and ensure optimal performance.

What is EvolveWAN used for?

EvolveWAN is best used for optimising and securing network traffic between different sites, cloud-based applications, and remote workers. It provides organisations with an efficient and cost-effective way to manage their WAN connections, improve application performance, and enhance security. With EvolveWAN, organisations can prioritise traffic based on business criticality, dynamically route traffic to the most optimal path, and reduce latency by leveraging multiple network paths. EvolveWAN also provides end-to-end encryption and security, protecting the organisation's data against cyber threats. Overall, EvolveWAN is best used for tasks that require efficient, secure, and reliable connectivity across different locations, particularly in situations where traditional WAN technologies may not be able to deliver the required performance or security.

What is a Level 1 PCI DSS certification?

Level 1 PCI DSS certification is the highest level of certification for businesses that accept, process, store, or transmit credit card information. To achieve Level 1 certification, a business must demonstrate full compliance with all of the requirements outlined in the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). This includes protecting cardholder data, maintaining secure networks, regularly monitoring and testing systems, keeping software up-to-date, and restricting access to sensitive information. Our EvolveWAN holds this highly respected accreditation.

Is PCI DSS a legal requirement?

PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) is not a legal requirement in the traditional sense, as it is not a law or regulation that businesses are required to abide by. However, PCI DSS is a set of security standards that is mandatory for any business that accepts, processes, stores, or transmits credit card information. Failure to comply with PCI DSS can result in significant financial penalties, as well as damage to a business's reputation. Additionally, many credit card companies and payment processors will require businesses to demonstrate their compliance with PCI DSS before allowing them to process transactions. In this sense, PCI DSS can be seen as a de facto legal requirement for businesses that handle credit card information. By adhering to PCI DSS standards, businesses can protect sensitive information and avoid potential data breaches, as well as maintain their ability to process financial transactions. Our solutions are fully secure and have been awarded Level 1 PCI DSS certification.

Does SD-WAN replace the firewall?

No, SD-WAN does not replace a firewall. While SD-WAN can provide some level of security by encrypting traffic and segmenting the network, it is not designed to be a full-fledged security solution like a firewall. Firewalls are designed to protect networks from unauthorised access and threats by examining network traffic and blocking any suspicious activity. They also provide additional security features such as intrusion detection and prevention, antivirus, and content filtering. SD-WAN and firewalls serve different functions and can complement each other to enhance network security. Many SD-WAN solutions integrate with firewalls to provide comprehensive security and improve network performance. Therefore, organisations should use both technologies together for a robust and secure network infrastructure.

Can EvolveODM be white labelled?

Yes, EvolveODM can be fully customised with your own branding and design elements, so that it appears as a seamless extension of your brand. This can be achieved in several ways, including: • Login page: When guests connect to your Wi-Fi network, the first page they see is the login page. This page can be customised to display your brand's colors, logo, and other design elements. • Network name: The name of your guest Wi-Fi network can be altered to include your brand name or a relevant keyword. This helps guests easily identify your network and associate it with your brand. • Network password: You can also change the network password to include your brand name or a relevant keyword. This helps reinforce your brand identity and makes it easier for guests to remember the password. • Using branded hardware: If you are providing the Wi-Fi hardware yourself, you can choose to use hardware that is branded with your logo or other design elements. This can help create a more cohesive brand experience for your guests. Overall, white labelling our EvolveODM guest WiFi can help you create a more professional and cohesive brand experience for your guests while also making it easier for them to connect to your network.

What is the difference between guest WiFi and WiFi?

The main difference between guest WiFi and regular WiFi is the level of access and security provided to users. A regular WiFi network is typically intended for the use of the owner and their authorised users, such as family members or employees. The owner has full control over the network and can configure security settings, access controls, and network resources as needed. In contrast, a guest WiFi network is designed to provide Internet access to visitors without giving them full access to the owner's network or resources. It typically has a separate connection and is often limited in terms of bandwidth and access rights. This allows guests to use the Internet without compromising the owner's network security or performance. In general, a guest WiFi network is a convenient way to provide visitors with Internet access while protecting the owner's privacy and security.

How do I get my marketing data?

Our EvolveODM portal provides an easy and efficient way to collect valuable marketing data from your customers, such as email addresses and social media profiles. With just a few clicks, you can export this data directly from the portal for use in your marketing campaigns. Exporting marketing data from the Free WiFi portal is a straightforward process that can save you time and effort. Once you log into the portal, you can access the customer data captured by the system, which includes demographic information such as age, gender, and location. This data can help you create targeted marketing campaigns that are more likely to resonate with your audience.

Can I track the activity of guests on the guest WiFi network?

Yes, many routers and access points have the ability to track the activity of devices on the guest WiFi network. However, it is important to ensure that any tracking is done in compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

How can I provide the guest WiFi password to my visitors?

There are several ways to provide the guest WiFi password to visitors, such as displaying it on a sign or providing it through a QR code. But routers also have a feature to automatically allow you to connect once the guest WiFi is chosen as the internet access point as soon as the guest tries to access the internet.

My current WiFi is not good, can you help?

Yes, we can offer WiFi surveys, quotations, and installation services if required. We can also provide pre-staged devices, pre-configured and tested, for self-installation.

What speed can I get if I use you as my ISP?

We offer a variety of speeds depending on availability in the area. This could range from a Leased Line at 10Gbps, FTTP at 350Mbps, FTTC at either 40Mbps x 10Mbps or 80Mbps x 20Mbps, or an ADSL connection with up to 24Mbps x 1 Mbps.

If my business has EvolveODM Guest Wi-Fi, does that mean Evolve is my ISP?

This is a common misconception, just because you are currently utilising Evolve's Guest Wi-Fi solution does not mean Evolve are also providing your connectivity.  Some of our customers who have our full solution offering including Connectivity, SD-WAN and Guest Wi-Fi and in that case Evolve would be the connectivity provider.

What is an ISP?

ISP is an Internet Service Provider, it is the company that provides your business with connectivity.

ALT-NETS

Evolve have established several strong carrier partners over the years, ensuring that business-grade connectivity can be provided in all areas. Evolve's carrier partners include ITS Technology, Community Fibre and many more.

The Switch to Full Fibre

The UK is currently behind the rest of the EU when it comes to the reach of full fibre connectivity. However, the demand for higher bandwidth is increasing as the number of connected devices per household grows. The COVID-19 pandemic has also led to an increase in remote working, making a reliable and high-speed at-home internet connection more important than ever. Collaboration tools such as Teams, which grew from 2 million users in 2017 to 75 million in 2020, have also seen significant growth in usage, requiring a better internet infrastructure. Although Openreach remains the biggest infrastructure provider for UK connectivity, the full fibre landscape is continually evolving to provide customers with a wider choice of providers. To ensure the best availability of full fibre services, partnerships have been established with alternative network providers, and all live connections on the network are proactively checked each week for full fibre availability.

XGS-PON

XGS-PON is a related technology that can deliver upstream and downstream (symmetrical) speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s (gigabits per second). We are working with ITS Technology to provide the UK with reliable and secure connectivity.
